Leadership Connection

 Apple Valley 2010

This year was a great success for the Leadership Connection!

Ten Career Mentors from the community (hand picked by the Career Institute) and ten youth participants met for the first time at the kick off luncheon at the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce where everyone was acquainted and inspired by local pastor and youth leader Dr. Jesse Giddens.

From there, mentors, youth participants and Career Institute Staff embarked for the RW Ranch in the Lucerne Valley. The overnight stay, evening activities and lunch the following day provided the perfect weekend kick-off!

Activities and workshops included:

- Learning about personality and leadership style through presentation and group interaction.
- Community Leaders and youth mentors told "their story" to encourage and inspire the group towards higher goals of involvement and engagement.
- Career Institute CEO, Teresa Taylor spoke on career development and the influence we can be in the lives of others.
- Career Mentor, Joe Taylor gave a presentation on "Leadership That Changes our World: Past, Present and Future".
- Mentors and youth participants met individually to talk about roles, expectations and how to get the most out of the program as well as the next six Fridays and activities to follow.
